The Hidden Agenda: Spring Fling

As we spring forward into the unknown of the new season we have an array of new projects, events, and exhibitions to look forward to.  The days are longer and weekends are warmer inviting us to adventure out into the world.  There is still sunshine to be absorbed once the work day concludes and what better way to welcome the gently warmed twilight than a performance or lecture. The closing week of March and the new beginning of April has a variegation of the mind and body awaiting us. Let us embrace the new creative sprouts of the season and venture out this week and next for an exploratory experience not to be hibernating on.

Exhibition Opening - Triage: Heather L. Johnson + Ellen H. Ray

Throughline Collective 6-9pm

Triage is an exhibition of cross disciplinary art that looks at our environment as a living entity, composed of interconnected organisms that thrive, evolve, and suffer trauma, as humans do. Through installation, video, drawing, embroidery, and interactive projects, artists Ellen H. Ray and Heather L. Johnson celebrates the resilience of non-human life while reflecting on consequences of environmental damage and our urgent need for deeper connections to the nonhuman world.  Throughline has continued to impress with its ongoing programming and once again we have a pairing of celebrated thought provoking artists.  Definitely make sure this is on your list of stops.

Still from the 2024 documentary No Other Land

Film - No Other Land

River Oaks Theater - Screening until April 3rd

Screening all week at River Oaks Theatre (2009 West Gray Street), the 2024 documentary No Other Land follows Palestinian activist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham as they document the Israeli military’s destruction of Masafer Yatta, a Palestinian community in the occupied West Bank. Providing an insider’s look at the conflict over the span of five years, the documentary — which won Best Documentary Feature Film at this year’s Academy Awards — also highlights the friendship and political alliance that develops between Basel and Yuval. An incredibly powerful and deep depiction of Palestine, Gaza and its continued turmoil before 2023.  With no theatrical distribution secured for the film,  this may be your only chance to see it, so get your tickets soon as the screenings are selling out quickly.
